*NEWS UPDATE* January 21st 2008
Okay people, this is your fearless leader ManWithoutAHat posting an update. I did something I should've done long ago and cleaned up the forum section of the group. I only left threads I thought were relevant or pertained to things still up for discussion. I've been kind of neglecting this group the last month or so because I have been busy (school, exams etc). I'm back now (as much as I can be) and here's how things have progressed.
We've got plenty of members, and I think we're actually the largest group on UG right now. This is awesome, but we need to be bigger. Get the word out people! This thing can spread word of mouth only, so advertise in your sigs, on your profiles, where ever you can. I noticed most of our members are pit monkeys (like myself) so we should focus on getting the word out to other forums as well. That is our number 1 priority right now, hitting our target number of members (100 000) or close to. Now, in an effort to stem the amount of threads that are started in the forum section, here's a brief (kind of) break down on how things are being planned out.
1. The original plan was for the purchase of this silo to be UG funded only. However, having heard Zapht's arguement about sponsors and selling ad space, that is becoming a possibility. I left his thread open for discussion, so if you have any opinions on this, post there. If you create a new thread, It's just going to get deleted.
2. ALLYING WITH ANY OTHER FORUM/WEBSITE/CRIME SYNDICATE ETC. IS NOT AN OPTION! I'm sorry to use bold lettering, but the amount of threads I noticed whilst deleting them made me realize how much I have to stress that point. We are still in the early stages of planning on this, and there is no need to ally off the bat if we don't need to. If it becomes apparent that we can't do it on our own then we'll discuss this option. Until then, any threads on this subject will be deleted.
3. This silo WILL be used as a venue. When we first started planning this, a venue/party area was our idea to pay the undoubtedly large amount of bills that come with buying a missile silo. Again, any more threads on this subject will be deleted.
4. I'm going to assign some mods later tonight, so congratulations in advance to whoever I choose. I expect you to be eagerly awaiting my decision :
5. Collection of money is still in the air. So far, the best I can come up with is Pay Pal. We could pay a lawyer or accountant to set up the pay pal and accept the money, that way he won't scarper with the cash. A thread is open in the forums for discussion.
Well, that's all I can think of for now. Just remember GET THE WORD OUT! Why have The Pit when we can have The Missile Silo?

NEWS UPDATE April 14, 2008
Okay, it's been again a while since I last posted a news update but we've come a long way since. We now only need 20 more members before we can move on to stage 2 of our operation. I just want to remind everyone that the silo in the description is the one we're going for. Another one is not up for discussion, and I also noticed a thread involving a COMPLETELY different idea from the one this group reflects. It's great if you have your own idea and want to put it into motion folks, but please start your own group for it rather than trying to change this one into your idea. Other than that I haven't got much to say other than kudos to everyone for inviting people and jumping our numbers approximately 200 people in a short amount of time. I'm thinking of assigning a few more mods soon before things really get rolling once we hit 1000, so keep an eye out because it COULD be you. (Although it probably won't be).
