Get a good wide strap. Seriously, after your bass and amp setup its the one piece of gear thing that will get you started nicely on the road to proper technique. It frees up your fretting hand from supporting your bass, helps you shoulders to relax and will save your back and posture in the long run. Get a good wide strap.
