Would you think a Mesa F-30 is good for classic/hair metal and Steve Vai like tones? |
For sure, great amps for the money. I've never tried for a Vai kind of tone, but with the right pups I'm pretty much 99% sure you could get a great tone.
These things have gain out the ass though, I never turn mine past half, even for metal. I do switch on an OD and the contour for metal, but I never crank the gain since I used single coils and cranking the gain muddies everything up. With buckers I would think you could about dime these things and not have it muddy up.
The thing I love about this amp is how it can sound crunchy with the bridge pup, but also sound super smooth with an OD on the Neck pup. What a great purchase.

travd92 wrote on Jul 17th, 2008 9:36pmhey guys, just stopping by to show some love for the boogies. i'm in the market for one right now, if anyone owns a rectoverb can you tell me a little bit about it and tell me what sounds you can get out of it? i just need a little combo with good jazz tones and metal tones but mainly jazz tones. quote |
Dirk Gently wrote on Jul 3rd, 2008 1:14pmYou definitely won't get that kind of gain out of a Lonestar. You won't really get Fender-type cleans out of it either. The Lonestar is pretty warm. A Mark IV might work for you. It's good for metal without having the stereotypical "Recto" sound and has cleans modeled directly from Fender amps. quote |
SylvaShredder wrote on Jun 19th, 2008 10:01pmI've been seriously looking at these suckers, but I have a few questions to ask. I have played a Roadking head, and I like it a lot. I was wondering about the Lonestar, though. I'm looking for a Fender-like clean, but enough versatility to be able to crank up to some 80'sish metal tones (plus an overdrive pedal, but that's besides the point). I was wondering if the Lonestar is on this level of versatility. Also if you answer to this, your wattage/speakers and about how loud it gets would be really helpful. I know it comes in a 30 watt combo and 100 watt head, but just wondering about other variations of it. Thanks quote |
