I agree with you.
At this point in their career its impossible for them to release an album that isn't good. But that being said, it's not as good as Colors.
It's way more repetitive than anything they've ever done and the 'epic' bits are not as 'epic' as parts of Colors. But there are still some awesome parts.
And I wish they would have gotten Adam Fisher (from Fear Before) back to do the hardcore vocals on Swim to the Moon. His screaming on Prequel to the Sequel is amazing
I've listened to this probably 10 times already. I think I need to put it down for a bit and come back to it in a few weeks and maybe my opinion of it will be a bit higher.

TGM is more of a collage of sounds. Colors is more like a perfect portrait of sounds.
Both are extremely well done and both have their strong and weak points.
Swim to the Moon does drag on the last several minutes and there are a lot of random changes in songs.
It is equal to Colors for me

I'm definitely still more a fan of colors than TGM. That being said though, there are some great moments on the new one. I'm finding it hard to get into Swim to the Moon though, it just seems much too long.

I like The Great Misdirect more, personally. I will be honest, the album (for me), doesn't really pick up till Disease, Injury, and Madness, but, it's amazing from then on.

Let me first say that I love "The Great Misdirect". It is an amazingly good album, equally as good as "Colors" IMO, but in its own sense. "Colors" was a musical masterpiece. "The Great Misdirect" is a... strange album. Seeing as all the lyrics pertain to the brain in some way (at least that is how I interpreted it), I expected the music to be somewhat strange, which it is. The true test for this album for me came last night, though. Every time a new Between the Buried and Me album comes out, I make it a point to sit down in a totally quiet environment, get some herbal medication and take in every bit of the album that I can. After doing this, "The Great Misdirect" has increased ten-fold for me. The moods in this album are incredible, so eerie at parts. The only thing that I think this album is missing is a "Mordecai", "Ants of the Sky", "Selkies: The Endless Obsession", et cetera. There are the parts at the ends of "Disease, Injury, Madness" and "Fossil Genera - A Feed From Cloud Mountain" that are very epic and musically entertaining. Overall, this was a phenomenal release from Between the Buried and Me and I would not change a thing about "The Great Misdirect". It is no better or worse than its predecessor, "Colors", just completely different.
