LYrics come to me easy, but its creating unique riffs and really the music to a song in general that I'm haning trouble with. Sometimes I will just write my own lyrics to songs I like but I cannot seem to write a song that I am happy with muisc wise. any suggestions?

PLAY your guitar for a few hours, while thinking of the mood and such. Keep the lyrics in your mind. Record a few times after that, and see what you come up with. I also like to keep a recording of ANY new riff or such I come up with. ANY more questions? I love talking about the process, but don't want to bog you down with stuff that doesn't relate to you.

I find myself writing songs, but once it comes down to lyrics everything I write to me sounds pretentious or bland. I might just be too hard on myself, but I just don't think I can write too many memorable lyrics.

You may be thinking TO much! Goto the place in your mind you are trying to write about and become that moment, allow the words to flow without thinking about
what you are writing. Edit it later.

Dude, everything that i write sounds the same way, i wrote a song for my girlfriend and i hate the lyrics because they sound preschool or typical but she LOVES the song. So i guess it just is the way you feel about yourself, like for example. I bet Jackson Pollack or Roy Lichtenstein (famous painters) would feel the same about their paintings but they are widely known.

i have lots to right about
so i get my lyrics down easy, but when it comes to the guitar part..
well im totally lost!

Lyrics are not set in stone. They can be changed, words taken away or added,
lines switched around to fit the music. I suggest writing a simple 3 chord progression and let the lyrics fit then you can add more complex chords as the
lyrics start to fit better. Record the simple progression and listen to it a few times while talking your lyrics, slowly start to "sing" them. Let me know how it goes.

well to me, i write like kurt cobain.
Kurt wrote his songs with music first then lyrics, that way the music can sorta just flow along and not seem forced upon it.
