our bands leader loves the clarinetists. The trumpets she is much less fond of. But, we don't have a marching band. we have:
Concert band
stage band
klezmer band
Jazz band
and then various ensembles. the rest are just year level bands and shiz. |
Hmm, my band director picks on us clarinets, but just because we're awesome. He hates me especially because i started 3 months ago and I'm now 2nd chair.

Is it just my band experience, or do band directors hate clarinets? All of my band directors have absolutely adored the trumpet and low reed sections, but hated the clarinet section. |
when i was in band, our band director yelled at the trumpets a lot, as well as the clarinets (we were all too quiet). but that was in marching band. during regular class......well, not much different. clarinets too soft, trumpets too loud. but in the end, we all found our balance. those were the good old days.
but i had to quit band my junior year b/c i was taking on college classes as well as h.s classes. if you saw our marching schedule, you would know why i quit. but that practice payed off b/c we got 1st in our marching competitions (one per year) and superiors at districts. our director pushed us as far as we could go, and then we delivered more.
also my favorite band director quit; a lot of people quit b/c of that. b

Hergiswi wrote on Feb 20th, 2009 6:09pmI'd imagine somebody here has heard of Mozart's Concerto for Clarinet (K. 622, whatever the hell that means). Is anyone any good at it? I'm playing it for an audition at Berklee next Saturday, and I'm afraid I'm gonna blow it big time. quote |

20cdndollars wrote on Jan 11th, 2009 1:38amI'd hate to double post, but I need to expand on my last comment.
oh wait. no I dont, this is MY group.
Clarinet is a very hard instrument, once you get going on it, dont be discouraged!
I'd also suggest getting a few lessons, because some of the little things can make a big difference, like, even a tiny little finger misplacement can lead to trouble later on. quote |
20cdndollars wrote on Jan 11th, 2009 1:30amI'd probably going with the Kolhert, but Clarinets, much like guitars are very dependent on the player, it just matters what you like. quote |

fecefeast wrote on Nov 29th, 2008 3:50amAnyone here into experimental clarinet and extended techniques like slap tonguing and multiphonics. Started messing around with that stuff in a free improv jam group. Totally opened my eyes to a new way of thinking of the instrument quote |
