i know this has probably been asked before so apologies ahead of time mates between the active emgs (81/85 set i think) and like the passive h4/ h4z (the passive set.. i might have names mixed) which would be more efficient? i dont need the "rip your face of distortion" the actives posess(sp?) plus i dont really want to have to keep replacing batteries.. just thinkin if there isnt too much of a sound differnce ill just get something with the passives

there's a big sound difference. the hz's are just shitty budget pickups. i have an 81/89 set in a schecter, and when i got it, the most surprising thing was my crunch tones were improved ten fold over my old guitars with passive pups, my clean was also significantly improved. and of course the high gain was more brutal than ever, with more definition and tighter bass. |

I agree with Derek here. HZ's are a pile of shit that they just put in budget ESP's and Jacksons etc Definately get the actives, replacing the batteries is no sweat, only have to replace mine once every 6 months or so.81 + 85 = 81 + 60 = 81 + 81 = HZs = |

the HZA's or w/e they call them, are a lot better than the regular HZ's though. |

Actives, definitely. You don't really have to change the batteries that much at all, the batteries in my Les Paul are still going strong after a year. |

I had HZs before, then i bought 81/89 and ruined them by soldering pluss on minus the first time. The battery holder was very confusing, lol. But im buying new ones soon. |

You barely ever have to replace the batteries. Its not like
twang-ZAP! damn, gotta replace!

I have HZ's, and I reckon they're awesome, I get as much output from them as I got from the pickups in the Epi LP custom I used to use, great for metal, although I'd prefer 81's |
