I'd like to ask the Gain whores, in an attempt to stir some life into this distorted cesspool of signal clipping, what they think of these clips in comparison to the amps they are meant to mimic. Preferably, owners of Soldanos, Oranges, Bogners, and Framus Cobras, or at least people who have spent a good amount of time with them. I already know they sound amazing, but how do you think these modified MTS modules stack up against your stacks?

I'd like it if owners of the various modeled amps would give their opinions on the accuracy of tone, hence why I put it up here. No better place, right? |

The Diezel model is not 100% bang on, but it's close. I would say that the closest are the LoneClean, the Pit Viper, and the Custom 3. |

The Diezel, while based off of the VH4, is supposed to have some Herbert flavor as well. Would you say it's got characteristics of both? Or just a fairly close clone? Also, it's cool cuz the three you mentioned are my favorites Along with the Stonerverb. And possibly the longest module in development so far is the ANGEL (all-around ENGL module), the runner up being Benzin.. I can't wait for the ANGEL to be finished!

Can You buy these? If you can, where would you get them from? How much would they cost? If you can't are there other brands that make Randall Modules like this. Also shouldn't Matrixclaw know about this since he got one of those MTS Preamps (I think it was him).
Edit: because the site was infected

I just bought an RM100 head. Can't wait for it to get here. AFAIK, Salvation only has a myspace and a soundclick.....his website was infected (I think hacked...) and so I am not sure if you can buy them production wise ATM.....however...soon enough. Another option is Peter Turley or even Dave Friedman of Racksystems. Either of these guys will do it. IMHO Dave does his best work on the Plexi-based modules, and Turley has got the mid-high gainer's down, and then there is Salvation.
I would check out Turley though for sure. He does some neat work. |

Generally you can PM Anthony (username: salvation) on the Randall forums and talk to him about them. The base modules cost around $150-175 used, a little over $200 new, and the mods are around $200 (there's a certain path of action to shipping them to the Czech Republic where he's located at that's fairly cheap, I'll have to look it back up). Ultimately you may end up spending around $350-400 on a totally custom module such as one of these, but they're based on preamps from $1500-3000 amplifiers and are quite accurate Plus, the resale is around $320-350 on them.
He doesn't MAKE the modules though, he takes existing ones and modifies them to spec. It would be far more expensive to individually make them, I would think.

Just bought an unmodded Blackface and an unmodded XTC module.....the clips for both are just sick...I may mod the blackface myself so that it will stay clean at higher gain settings. |
