No guitars are as well-made as Fenders! I once played a Gibson SG that was about $2,000 that played awful when compared to a Fender Standard Strat that, at the time I bought mine, only cost $350. Now, Standard Strats cost $400. I'm glad I got mine while I did. Also, Fender Strats and Teles are so much more versatile than Gibson Les Pauls and SGs. Only a Tele can go from playing the heaviest riffs to the greatest twang out there and then to a great creamy blues tone. Then, the Strat...well, the Strat is just as versatile as a Tele!

I disagree with Nose Spray. The twang of a Fender Strat for the lead, and a nice solid mahogany LP chugging down a great rhythm. Not that your combo wouldn't work of course!

a Fender as the rhythm guitar and a gibson on lead.. that's the best combination

I have many of both F and G. They each get used in different circumstances. so my vote is play what like, good thing there's a choice!

sorry for two posts but it also seems to me that fender's only well known product is the strat while gibson has many great stlyes so its more of "Gibson v. Strat"
dude you forgot the telecasters and fender's famous basses

i must say, gibsons are much more versatile, they can do metal, any kind of rock, blues, and jazz. fenders just cant gain unless theyr playing blues

to me it depends on what you play i think Gibson is metal, hard rock, rock with some exceptions (iron Maiden) fenders seem to have a very jazzy twang sound for rock, jazz or pink flyod i like gibsons though
