Anybody dig the Thermals? I was in Hootenanny (which is Newbury Comics' [which is a badass chain of record stores in New England] clothing store) yesterday with my friend Sean and we liked what they were playing, so we asked about it. It turned out to be the Thermals, so we went to the Newbury Comics upstairs and bought some of their stuff and I'm enjoying it immensely.

Well I just finally decided to sit down and learn some tunes by The Strokes.

The guitar part by Albert Hammond Jr. in the chorus took me ages to learn because my fingers were not used to playing a part in that pattern, so I kept going back to what I was used to and screwing up. I've nearly got it now though.

Soooo. This group's...pretty dead.

I'm not sure if it's a blessing or a curse that garage rock is so widely neglected. Probably the former.

Haha, a lot of times I start writing with two different existing songs in mind and take one and keep changing to be more like the other until it's different enough from both of them to call my own. I'm a charlatan.

I remember one day I wrote a cool progression and rhythm and then played it for my friend and was like, "Dylan, that's the exact same guitar part as Someday by The Strokes!" and I had never heard the song.

It was very heartbreaking because I thought I had made such a cool rhythm part...

Then I started trying to write a garage rock song yesterday and I think I stole my lead part from The Strokes...I'll have to check.

I'm still waiting for a band to come around here.

I'm in a fledgling band that I'm hoping might turn out to be a garage rock band. We wrote our first original today, and it's definitely got a garage feel. If we ever get to recording anything, this is the first place I'll bring it.

I was never a regular in the thread, but I am here now. Garage rock is really great.

Also, I like The Hives. Lucky.

Kickass. I'm totally gonna see the Hives by myself in October because it's 18+ and none of my friends'll be 18 until the Spring. I win and they lose.
