Cliff Burton or Les Claypool?

Joryko

Just a simple question, who would you guys prefer to listen to, or who do you like to listen to more?  Im just curious to see what some of the bassists on UG think.

I would personally choose Cliff over Claypool, however, I have much respect for Claypool and his skills.

I would have to say 50-50 for this one, because their styles are so different, it's hard to chose one over the other I would have to say 50-50 for this one, because their styles are so different, it's hard to chose one over the other

Cliff really started bass effects, and was a master of the bass solo. Les Claypool took the bass to a new, central stage and created a new kind of music. However, I think that Cliff wins because of how much he managed to accomplish in his (unfortunately) very limited time playing in the public eye. I say Cliff but I'm pretty sure that Claypool would destroy him were he still around....Cliff is a big influence on me musically so I had to choose him. delicious

Claypool, in my opinion. He plays the bass with more of a groove than Burton.
Not saying that Burton isn't extremely talented, I just prefer Les.

I've listened to the master tracks of Cliff with just drums and bass, Cliff has sloppy rhythm written all over him. One of the fundimental skills of a bassist, shredding solos are for guitarists, bassists need to keep rhythm.
