Random Band discussion

Of_Wolves

I was reading around the group and I got thinking why not have a place to discuss a band or artist your particularly into a the moment. Might be fun. Nice way to get to know each other and see who realy does listen to lots of different styes XDD

For me it would be anything Mars Volta related for now. I got their newer album Amputechture recently and I was really impressed by the sheer creativity that this particular "composing partnership" as they call themselves, and the fact they can produce a catchy song (see Vermicide) along side a long progressive solo ridden track like Vicarious Atonement. Pretty fun really. Which reminds me I need to aquire more At The Drive-in and some earlier Volta records.

Oh and I was interested to hear that John Frusciante is a part of their performance group, pretty cool. On a side note Mr. Fru is pure awesome and win live, I saw the Chili Peppers sunday :wtf: Can't forget about Flea either mind you or Chad Smith and ......... well all of them really lol

What about you guys? Got anything to say about Omar and his buddys? Anything to say about another band you think people should take a listen at perhaps?

I'v been meaning to look Mars Volta up for some time now...

For me a band I'v been really into the past couple days or so is Thee More Shallows
If you go on my profile you'll see my music player thing, you can listen to two of their songs there.
Night at the Knight School is my current favorite song, really nice and catchy with a nice ambient/electronic feel.
I love it.

Weird name there, but I'm kinda caught by their music. I'm a sucker for a bit of electronics in 'rock' hehe. I'll look more into them I think, thanks there. Oh and on the subject of '...Volta' and things I've been kinda hooked on Sparta since I saw them live at the weekend. Weird name there, but I'm kinda caught by their music. I've been looking up more and more stuff by Aphex Twin recently; they've got some really twisted songs. For example, check out the music video for "Come to Daddy" on youtube. Windowlicker is a kind of laid back chill track where most of the synths are actually just people's voices through a Vocoder, which makes for some bizarre sounding stuff, but it works. I also found a track by them, Techno Tetris, which is basically just a rave remix of the Tetris theme, which I thought was pretty cool. But just ignore all this if you're one of the many people who can't stand electronica ;)

Also, I'm kind of starting to get into 65 Days of Static (mathcore, I think it's called). I Swallowed Hard Like I Understood is a great track.

And, my dad bought me a Michael McDonald album. That guy has such a fantastic voice...

I too have been meaning to look up the Volta...

We need to get this group more active. USING GUERRILLA MARKETING!
Or just convince people to post... :P

I think 65 days of Static are more an experimental/ambient/mathcore sort of band now days. I remember seeing their myspak page recently hmmmm... But I do enjoy a bit of "mathcore" music now and then hehe gotta love The Dillenger Escape Plan.

On a different note, you should definately all look up the mars volta lol and while your at it Some At The Drive-in and Sparta

Of wolves, if you don't have Deloused in the Comatorium by The mars volta get it now. it's the perfect album. also if you're looking to get at the drive in stuff, i'd start with Vaya, then Relationship of command, then anything else. I also should try getting more Dillenger Escaoe Plan hehe, I have the Miss Machine stuff and the ep with Mike Patton, just need to grab some earlier stuff with Dimitri Minakakis on vocals. I'm interested in whether it sounds all that different ya know.

In other news I've found a number of cool bands through the old Myspace recently. Mainly in a sort of Indie/Alternative/Experimental sort of genre as they call it. I guess they can wait for later however.

Amputechture is the Volta's weakest album IMO. It's got a couple of great tracks, but I think Deloused and Frances are much better.

Scab dates also kicks ass.
