...Not really. It's their choice to listen to what they want to listen to. It has nothing to do with me so I'm not bothered at all.

muel333 wrote on Jul 28th, 2008 3:41pmTo me right now is a time of musical growth of most musicians. If you ask an average teenager what there favorite kind of music is there most likely going to say rap or hip hop which is ok but classical rock is kind of drifting away. Not completely but more and more artists are choosing different fields of music. quote |

ledzepfreak94 wrote on Jun 13th, 2008 11:54amOK, i like a lot a stuff (classical, bluegrass, country, pop, some metal, blues, jazz, etc.) but my heart is in Classic Rock (Zep, Hendrix, you know...). I honestly do not care what other people listen to as long as they don't trash my music.... I care about what they DON'T listen to, mainly because they think something is good but there's stuff so much better (for example, some of my friends in chorus were doing "Mr. Roboto" by Styx, and they don't even realize the true gems bY Styx: "Come Sail Away", "Blue Collar Man", "Renegade",) I know they can't help it but when I suggest it to them they completley ignore me! I give a listen to stuff people suggest to me (If I remember it by the time I get home). I literally had to burn a cd of Led Zeppelin's "soft" songs for one of my friends to realize that Led Zeppelin was NOT heavy metal.
I dislike rap, it disturbs me, but some stuff is pretty cool (rarely). I dislike Metal for the same reasons I dislike rap (it's mainly the yelling and screaming and t quote |

Some quotes about Rap:
"(Music)= (Rap)"
| Fixed. I understand what you're trying to say but to say that Rap Music isn't actually music is ridiculous.

Whoa! I got cut off in the beginning. I forgot the rest of what I was saying, too, even though it was good. Whatever, here's the summary.
In the end, rap isn't music, but rap artists and listeners are people with their opinions, so they can listen to it all they want. It will just still be a lower form of art in most people's eyes. In mine anyways |
I don't like rap. At all. Anyway I'll put forward the same point that a few people I know always argue to me:
Mainstream rap is shit. Kanye West, 50 Cent, Eminem, etc they are not good examples of the genre.
(As a metalhead, and as a fan of punk, I can relate to this)
When rap is good, the artistry lies in the lyrics, mainly.

DanceWreck wrote on Jun 12th, 2008 1:04amOn Rap
Ok, first off, I don't hate rap, I have good friends that listen to it, but I don't enjoy it at all. I don't have 1 rap song on my iTunes, for example
However, I would say that Rap is only about 5% musical.
( I consider most rock songs at about 40-80% musical)
Some quotes about Rap:
"(Music) - (Music) = (Rap)"
"The musicality of a song can be measured by taking all of the 'cool effects' off of the instrumentation. To do this, try playing the song on only a piano. Most rap songs could be easily played with one finger."
While rap is definitely considered a musical genre, I don't think we should think of it as one.
However, it may be considered a separate form of art. Just because its not very musical, doesn't mean its easy. I know I can't rap like the artists today. ( Hence the word artists as opposed to musicians )
This would mean that just nobody can correctly call rap music doesn't mean that nobody can consider rap to quote |

why are so many arguments here?? | Exactly, if you don't like a genre by all means say so but at least try to respect it and those who listen to it.
