The importance of Neil Young cannot be overstated, as underappreciated as he is. For myself, Neil Young is as prominent as Bob Dylan as an influence, if not more so. He can play the most beautiful accoustic ballad, then he cranks up and hits it as hard as Hendrix! I used to have Bob Dylan's 30th music anniversary [1992] where neil young plays two dylan songs. The 1st is "Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues", followed by a Hendrix inspired version of 'All Along the Watchtower'. He makes that guitar 'grate', i can't explain it any better. He is inventive and innovative and dosen't care if the sound is raw and jagged, something about him I admire. I'll write some more stuff soon, but 1st I'd like to hear what everyone else has to say about him...

I haven't heard very much of his work, but I love the obvious things: "Like a hurricane" (great guitar tone, with all the reverb!!), "Keep on rockin' in the free world" (did a cover of it with my band, is great fun to sing!), "After the gold rush", "Hey hey, my my", "From Hank to Hendrix" and of course "The needle and the damage done".
I think his acoustic songwriting is brilliant, but no-one plays electric guitar like he does: the inventor of the one-note solo, with his fuzzed-up, reverb-laden tone...
I really should go buy Decade, or is there a better collection of his works?

very alternative, shot in B&W, artistic to the core and ruthless. It is set in early american history at the end of the line in the town of Machine. Neil Young drenches the movie with his unique brand of awesome raw style, with moments of polished beauty. Check out my deadman theme cover on my Precipitate bandpage if you like.
Is on now in the background [i have the dvd]. I don't have it on my computer at this stage though.

Yeah Dead Man is awesome its pretty much an Acid Western, as for Neil Young the guy is a legend and any rockers of today should aspire to be like Neil Young because even in his old age he still remains relevant and continues to produce worthwhile music one things for sure hes never going to burn out or fade away haha lame but true.
