What band got you into prog?

Bassist Rising

Personally it was Tool for me. One of the greatest bands ever.

Rush got me into prog at an early age, then Yes, Tool, and Dream Theater. As such, I have "progressed" deeper into said rabbit hole. Well, I listened to Rush even when I was a little kid, before I really knew what progressive music was. The first song that really jump started my love for the genre though was probably The Dance of Eternity by Dream Theater. Tool. I don't even remember how I came across them. I limewired like random bands a few years ago, way before I was REALLY into music. Didn't like them at all. Then a few monthes ago, I bought their CDs and after that I jumped into Prog and loved it. Tool. I don't even remember how I came across them. Between The Buried And Me. Mostly the song, "Prequel To The Sequel". It was after I started listening to BTBAM a lot that I started wanting to find music of the highest quality. And from BTBAM discovered the genre of prog's awesomeness, and got into a whole bunch of other prog bands, and developed my love for the genre. Between The Buried And Me. Mastodon, Sleeping Giant. I didn't know they were prog when I heard it, but I listened to more of their stuff and realized the complexity of these parts working together so amazingly well was what I most liked about it. Then I started looking into this whole prog thing and am now beyond the point of no return. :P Mastodon, Sleeping Giant. My old man was always playing old prog when i was growing up. King crimson, Jethro tull, Pink floyd and Zappa mostly. Although I really liked it, I was into my metal more. Now we have this wonderful thing called progressive metal. Ain't life grand. My old man was always playing old prog when i was growing up. King crimson, Jethro tull, Pink floyd and Zappa mostly. I remember listening to the whole Pink Floyd's Wall album from start to finish. My dad told me it was a story and i was just completely intrigued by the thought of a whole story album. Then I got Wish You Were Here, and i remember thinking "I wish Shine On You Crazy Diamond was just one huge song instead of two parts." Then i was told it was called prog, and realized it was amazing. I remember listening to the whole Pink Floyd's Wall album from start to finish. I started as a metalhead. I loved protest and dream theater. I also was really into Tool. I really liked music where the bass was prevalent/ equal to the guitar. That's what drew me to prog at first. That and my love of avant-garde and Jazz styles. I started as a metalhead. I loved protest and dream theater. I also was really into Tool. Tool and Pink Floyd were my first prog bands, but that was before I knew what prog was.

The bands that really got me into it were Opeth and Dream Theater. They led to Porcupine Tree, Riverside, Symphony X, and eventually all of the awesome bands I know now.

EDIT: How could i forget tool??????
