Hi guys, I'm an alto player and lately I've been wanting to extend my range on the sax.
Do you guys have any tips for getting a clear sound out of the higher notes, namely from high C to F? (concert Eb to Ab) I want to get these smoothed out before trying altissimo.
And at the other end, any advice for playing from low D to low Bb (concert F to Db) and starting the notes clearly? Usually when I tongue in that range I'll start by getting an overtone (normally an octave above or an octave and a fifth) before it shifts to the desired note.
I think it's just a matter of experimenting with my embouchure, but any suggestions you guys have would be greatly appreciated. |
try to experiment with different reed sizes that should help out

Okay, how about this one...
Has anyone else ever played The Chicken in Jazz? The Tenor part is awesome But the solo is incredibly difficult. |
yes we play the chicken. awesome song. the tenor/trumpet/trombone soli is very difficult, but worth it nonetheless. we just need to find someone who can play the tbone soli up to tempo lol

its a sweet 200bpm sax feature swing song that builds and builds throuought the song, then goes back to normal, then theres a killer sax soli throughout the rest of the song. look it up on playlist or somewhere, and try to get the director to play it. killer solos throuout ;D quote |

Canadian_basser wrote on Nov 3rd, 2007 11:18pmHey everyone. I play baritone sax, and I absolutely love it. It's second only to bass. Are second-hand baris reliable? I want one, but I can't afford the -at least- $800 price tag for a new one. quote |

kaplac wrote on Oct 21st, 2007 5:11amyeah, I fell in love with marching. I'm currently learning baritone to audition for my local corps.
For me, the sax parts in a lot of concert music is really boring. It may be just because I'm not in a group that's capable of playing harder pieces. But it just never really interested me. I always liked jazz though, the sax parts are most always pretty cool, and saxes always get the cool solos. :P
Does anyone here watch drum corps? quote |
Don't Read This wrote on Oct 18th, 2007 2:48ami love concert music i think i like it better than marching music its more technical and challenging quote |
kaplac wrote on Oct 17th, 2007 4:29pmyeah, my director gave it to us this year too. I don't really like it. Concert music was always too boring for me. I did do jazz but our new director is a PITA, so I quit. Couldn't deal with him any more.
But yeah, anyone heard the big band arrangement of Blue rondo a la Turk? Such a great song, I wish I coudl play it again! quote |
