I have been playing with a dunlop jazz I (one) pick, which I file down to a nice point. Looks like the jazz III, only skinnier.
For the past month I have been slowly trying out the exercise from guitar world - the march 2007 issue, specifically the "connect the dots" arpeggio patterns by one of the dudes from trivium.
I can play the stuff no problem nice and slow, but not quite a smooth chord like action. Also I do play stuff on the clean channel until I really have it down.
I just can't seem to get a nice clean strum across all the strings. Mostly I notice the pick will miss just one string. So I know I have to focus more on keeping the pick in a good position.
But my real problem is getting the strum motion really smooth. I have tried going back to a more normal pick, but the extra plastic sound really sticks out to me and honestly bugs the crap out of me.
So in conclusion I guess I am looking for people that use a similar pick, like the jazz, and wondering if the shortness of the pick affects strumming for you too. |
