So it seems nobody knows the story, Leonard Skinner was a gym teacher who tormented the original members of Skynyrd because they had long hair, which was against the schools dress code. Well it has been rumored that one of the members of the band got up and introduced them as Leonard Skinner as a joke at a gig and they then changed there name to lynard skynard. which then became Lynyrd Skynyrd later on. That's actually what happened. He was a jerk and they used to mock him all the time and that's how they got their name. Ronnie Van Zant decided to add to the joke by announcing the band as Leonard Skinner and the crowd liked it. So they kept the name and eventually changed it to Lynard Skynard which became Lynyrd Skynyrd later (for legal reasons obviously).
