A thread where you guys can analyse the production of various albums and songs. Here you can see and learn the ways the pros do it and try to apply the techniques to your recordings and productions.
Some highly well produced bands like Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Coldplay, Metallica use quite interesting techniques to record the songs on their album.
Over here you can discuss how the bands recorded and produced their albums. The techniques they used to get the various tones and sounds. Most of these things are quite simple which you can apply to your own recordings to make it sound better.
So this could be the perfect place to learn how the pros do it.

Here is a link to the recording notes from Flemming Rasmussen on the recording of the Metallica Master of Puppets album. There are guitar notes, drum notes, and a couple pictures. There is alot of information there on the way he EQ'ed the album. There is also notes on the And Justice For All album as well. Check it out its pretty cool.

Never mind the bollocks may have introduced the concept of "overproduced albums" (erm, Spector, anyone???), but its relentless overtracking set the scene of every rock and metal band to follow. |

recording MUSE - Absolution. Some great stuff there...
"Recording the introduction to 'Apocalypse Please': Dominic Howard plays a drum fill from the Grouse Lodge swimming pool, with the driver from an NS10 speaker used as a close mic." |

Using speakers as mikes is becoming increasingly common.
Studiospares actually recommend their SN10 (copies of the NS10) bass drivers to be wired as mics for kick drum work. |
