Switchfoot was formed in 1996, starting out with lead singer/lead guitarist Jonathan Foreman, his younger brother Tim Foreman (bassist, backing vocals), and their school buddy Chad Butler (drums). They released their first album in 1997, just a little after Tim graduated from high school. The album was called The Legend of Chin, followed by New Way to Be Human (1999), and Learning to Breathe (2000). Few of their songs were featured in the movie 'A Walk to Remember' (starring Mandy Moore, who also covered Switchfoot's 'Only Hope') As the band grew with an additional member, Jerome Fontamillas (keys, everything else), they released another album in 2003, The Beautiful Letdown (which went platinum). In 2005, they released Nothing is Sound, with another member added, Drew Shirley (guitar). In 2006 the band released Oh! Gravity along with an EP (Oh! EP.) Switchfoot dropped Sony/Columbia in '07, and after a few months being an indie band, they created their own label: Lowercase People. Their first song released by LCP Records is Rebuild, a collaboration song from Switchfoot, Relient K, and Ruth (they had toured with SF during the '07 Apetite For Construction tour.) Switchfoot will be releasing a new album in the Fall of 2009, called 'Hello Hurricane.' They had already released its first single, 'Mess of Me.'
