Why take it to a tech when your dad's an electrical engineer? :p

I exploit him mercilessly :p

Anyways...cheese Gromit! Marshall-uber-rig has been trumped methinks

Nice rigs, fellas! I'm still happy with with my Traynor YCV40T.
I'm using a pair of JJ KT77's in the power section, and a JAN Phillips 5751 in V1, a Shugang 9th something or other 12AX7 in V2, and a Tung Sol 12AX7 with gold plating in V3. I run a 10 band EQ in the effects loop to trim off a little of the low end, and I am extremely happy with my tone.

It's got that bite and snarl from the midrange that I like.

I think I'll record some clips after I get a Shure e609..and my own SM57 (i've been using my co-guitarists.)

I'm *remarkably* happy with my Chicago Blues Box Roadhouse. It's like your traditional BF Super Reverb, but with some extra versatility and better dynamics. The speakers aren't super great though (Jensen C10Q reissues), but everything else is top notch.

I love now even more so after I got a NOS RCA 12ax7 in V1.
I want to somehow get more of these puppies for some of my other preamp slots.

But, I envy you with that amp.

That might be my favorite tube ever. I have two in my '73 Twin, as the first and second gain stages for the reverb channel.

Yeah.
It'd probably be a good idea, just to see if it actually changes the tone.
Also, I would assume that the stock tube in that kustom wouldn't be that great probably.

ECwomantoneman: Freakin nice. Can we expect sound clips?

Ortrigger: Actually, I have like 5 JJ 12AX7's in my spare tube box (cleared out my whole preamp section of my CBB with RCA's and other older tubes like that).
If you could PM me your address, I could ship one over to your place!

Yeah...there's something magical about that tube.

When I get my next amp (either an Orange Rockerverb or a Rivera Venus 6) I think I might try one in there. The Rockerverb has more gain than I'll need, and I want to introduce some bit in there that I think the 5751 will give it.

Haha thanks guys  and I've heard Tung-Sol 12ax7's are amazing, almost as good as original Mullards. Try them out too I guess? :)

and hopefully will be recording some sound clips before the end of the summer, still busy with school at the moment :(

Ec, that is amazing. I'm using a Peavy classic 30. I had originally planned on using my pro junior for cleans but the PV has some very nice ones. I use the PJ for small jams. Also have a big 50w SS amp. Cleans are actually pretty good. Gain, is mediocre. But it works for practicing. Pretty damn quiet. Ec, that is amazing. I'm using a Peavy classic 30. Yeah, those Peavey Classics are nice amps.
They're fussy with tubes though. I really want to get some Tungsols in the preamp, and maybe some weber alnico blue clones in it.
My beloved CBB is currently separated from me, as I'm getting the RCA 6l6's I got from the.spine.surfs installed by my tech. They're the 70's kind, which apparently are different than the desired 60's ones, but i'm sure they'll sound nicer than my JJ's (a tad dark).

Marshall Lead 12. I'm not sure what year it is, but it's a little SS marshall. and it sounds just as good, if not better than, as a lot of tube amps i have tried. it's really responsive to dynamics and accepts pedals really well.

Update: Just got one of those Egnater 20W Rebels. F*cking Godly. for 50$ more than a Valveking, you get 10X the tone. my favourite features on this amp are the tube selector and the Watt selector. the guy who sold it to me actually knows the guy who build the amps. he grew up in his neighborhood and he tested the original prototypes. cool, huh?

the Tube selector lets you balance from two 6L6 power tubes for a more american sound, to two EL84 Power tubes for a more British sounding amp. i prefer it set about halfway. it give a really midrange-y Vox-y sound.

the Watt selector lets you lower the wattage to 1 watt for practice or recording, or 20 watts for loads of headroom and for performing.

if you are looking for a good, affordable all tube head that's versatile, but are tired of those space station amps (JVM, Mesa/Boogies), the Egnater Rebel definitely deserves a look
