How long does it take you too write a song?

No U

I'm having no look at the moment. 2 Weeks now I've been trying to put a goodish song together, but I've had no luck. Perhaps it's because I have a cast on my arm... I don't know. I always feel that when I think up a riff that it's really basic and not good enough.

Do you guys have similiar problems? How long does it usually take you to write a complete song?

How do you write your Thrash? Do you pick a scale and see where it goes from there or do you just play around and see what you come up with?

i have the same problem. whenever i write a good riff i think it's not good enough and ditch the whole song together. it takes me 2 months to get a good song together on my own, with my band about a week. i have the same problem. whenever i write a good riff i think it's not good enough and ditch the whole song together. it takes me 2 months to get a good song together on my own, with my band about a week.

The last one I finished took me between a week and ten days, but that's a ten minute epic. It all depends on your motivation, really. Most of the songs have come from riffs I accidentally made and though "fuck, that's br00tal!" And it went from there. Still not brilliant at writing with my band - too many egos clashing. Well, the last one I finished yesterday :p. So that took me only about 4-5h I think. It's really easy with guitar pro. I just came up with 1 nice riff and the rest are pretty much based on that riff. It only has about 6 riffs altogheter and it's probably a little under 4 min long, but I still think it's fuckin' awesome.

Sometimes I get stuck though, or I just don't have the motivation to finish the song and I just put the riff I came up with to my "storage", so that I won't forget it. But sometimes I make a song without getting up from this chair :haha:

Been working on an album for about a month now, have 3 songs (one is an intro) finished and am working on the 4th. So far the play list (up to and including track 3) runs about 11 minutes Been working on an album for about a month now, have 3 songs (one is an intro) finished and am working on the 4th. Usually it's a couple of days to write/record a song, then maybe another couple days to play around and add finishing touches. It all depends how inspired you are though; I sometimes get on a binge and write a whole song in like an hour. Actually, to tell you the truth, I have the excact opposite problem. I write too much and I'm gonna start a strike. I won't write music for a month, because I don't even have a band to play my songs with.

That's true, sometimes I can write a whole song, shred until Gary Holt's brain implodes and play riffs that put Matt Drake through a 19th century hand wound mincer. But other times, I sound like Kerry King. :p:

I'm a total perfectionist so it can take me anything from two hours to two years. I still have unused riffs from when i first started playing! I'm a total perfectionist so it can take me anything from two hours to two years. I still have unused riffs from when i first started playing!

I have a notebook and about two dozen low quality MP3s full of riffs :haha: They're great when you run out of steam and can't think of anything that fits; some stuff you wrote ages ago sometimes goes perfectly.

Yeah, exactly - I've decided to use some riffs I used for my last (and absolutely wank) band. Great stuff. Yeah, exactly - I've decided to use some riffs I used for my last (and absolutely wank) band. Great stuff.

I have a small square notebook - with a picture of Tony Montana on the cover, yeah motherfucker - which I have filled with old tabs drawn out in Biro, and utterly terrible lyrics, all about the pain and sadness which I didn't feel, but though it was cool to pretend like I did. A couple of hours on guitar pro, depending on how complex the song is and if I feel inspirated. One day to record and tweak. A couple of hours on guitar pro, depending on how complex the song is and if I feel inspirated. One day to record and tweak.
