Edit: Added a couple you missed. Hallows Eve and Tankard. The two Tankard albums can typically only be found as a remastered double these days, so I put them on as one.

If Bonded By Blood are generic, Warbringer are in a different league. They're a good listen every now and then, but far from "Essential", IMO.

Anyway, you'll find most of the stuff from there on The Pirate Bay, or Mininova or Demonoid, that's if you get an invite. Or just get winrar, and go on Blogsearch and download from there. Or, and this is really wacky, you could buy them. I know it sounds mad, too.

An album downloaded is not a sale lost, fuckwit. It's not like he could afford to buy it anyway. It does no harm because if he didn't download it, he still wouldn't have fucking bought it. The artist made no money either way.

It's not "killing the industry", the industry is as strong as it's ever been. What, do you think torrenting an album somehow leeches money directly out of an artist's bank account? If anything it's beneficial, in that bands who would otherwise be unknown can get their stuff to a whole new audience: The piss poor such as us.

Face it. Piracy is a scapegoat used by bigwig record company officials when they can't figure out why the tripe they produce doesn't sell. Who the hell wants to pay money for the likes of A7X anyway? And yet look how rich they're making Roadrunner or whoever.

You simply can't tell me piracy makes any significant impact. It just doesn't.

Most people who download albums don't buy them, which in turn means the band gets less money from sales - obviously they get more for merch and whatnot, but its still a dent in their income. Lets not forget that they have to pay back their label for all the printing, studio time, touring costs and such before the band maes any money, so if people keep downloading shit then the bands are going be find it harder and harder to pay back their labels.

I'm with Verm, I used to think like you Dave, but like Verm said piracy gets your music to a wider audience -> You get more fans -> They come see you play -> You make more money that way, because the artists don't get shit from the CD sales anyway, which is why it's not a dent in their income (+ more fans -> more merch sold, get it?). Surely the label gets their cut from the touring as well.

I'm staying out of this one for a while, I'm not in the mood to get roped into an epic argument, which causes lots of emotional responses.

But, I think piracy is on the whole a good thing; the people that tend to lose out are the record executives, whom I have no sympathy for; if I were making and selling music, I hope that I would be ok with my music being pirated. I want fans, not riches, and anyway, piracy is responsible for many brilliant thrash bands getting their recognition, Sepultura got know due to tape trading, which is effectively rapidshare, but on a difrerent format. No one complains about that.

Still, most people buy anyway.

The sound is not THAT bad, I personally find it more tolerable than Infernal Overkill or something along those lines. And it's getting reissued and remastered so that should solve the problem.

As far as the quality goes, IMO they're more than good enough to make it on to the "essentials," judging by the presence of stuff like Seasons in the Abyss.

The sound quality problem is going to be fixed on the remaster that's coming out very very soon (and to think KIMB is on there despite that reason), and if the likes of Sadus are on the list, then IMO MS should be as well.

To be honest I only have around 2/3 of them, some of them are frankly just impossible to find.

Just go for the biggest bands on there and hit up the torrent sites. Then, buy the ones you liked best so as to support teh band. All the stuff on the new skool list should be pretty easy to find, for a start.

The problem with warriors is that heir bodies are completely anorexic. Which of course means thin, non-brutal tone. You want something with as much wood in it's construction as possible. An oak office desk with strings attached is ideal.

I put both old and new together. Theres little to no need for two seperate bodies of text, its its rather biased putting three albums on both old and new for the same band (Metal Church and Exdosu being prime examples). Limit it to two for each band, since most of them don't have any more than two absolutely mandatory albums. Kreator for example, the only ones you NEED to list are Pleasure to KIll and Extreme Aggression - so juyst list those. Everything else by them (well, almost everything) is awesome too, but those two stand out really. See what I mean?

I'll type up another one and tweak it to suit everyone. Except those goddamn Ausfailians.

True enough, although I disagree about the old/new divide.

The old bands who have released modern albums sound almost entirely different. If you played someone COAWG and then Bonded By Blood, they wouldn't think they were the same band. I think in a lot of cases, old thrash and new thrash are practically separate genres.

I do think we should keep it down to two albums, although I think we should reach a group consensus on what those two albums are. Obviously not everyone will be happy, but it will at least be a more accurate picture of "essential" thrash.

It's just a word for deathy thrash, the same way you'd say melodic, power or technical thrash for bands like Artillery, Metal Church and Coroner respectively.

People sometimes also use it to describe the early death metal; that essentially sound identical to thrash, but with the aggression turned up to 11. However that way, you run the risk of upsetting death purists and/or fanboys.

It's just a word for deathy thrash, the same way you'd say melodic, power or technical thrash for bands like Artillery, Metal Church and Coroner respectively.

People sometimes also use it to describe the early death metal; that essentially sound identical to thrash, but with the aggression turned up to 11. However that way, you run the risk of upsetting death purists and/or fanboys.
