Undertow or Lateralus sound?

Metalology

As you already know Tool's overall sound started changing when Paul D'amour left the band. Would you have rather had a more Undertow/Opiate sound or are you happy with the sound they have now?

I'm glad Justin joined.

I prefer the older Undertow/Aenima sound to the Lateralus and beyond sound. The band was still hungry, and full of anger and energy. I prefer the older Undertow/Aenima sound to the Lateralus and beyond sound. The band was still hungry, and full of anger and energy.

i simply love both sounds =)<br>
i think you can't really compare them, paul was (as mentoined by maynard) more like a bassist who wanted to play guitar...but don't get me wrong, i love the old sound, too!

Both. Paul was a simplistic but powerful bassist, and he beat the shit out of his bass. Justin was a big effect user, and created new ways to play very simplistic bass lines. BASS TONES HAD A HUGE IMPACT as well. Paul used a Rickenbacker 4003CS, which had very powerful mids and a percussive attack. When Justin joined, his Wal (which he uses on all songs but 46 & 2 and H. ) was very well rounded with a heavy mid and low end. Both. No Spin

Undertow is amazing, but overall I think I prefer Lateralus since it flows better and feels less like individual songs. Undertow is amazing, but overall I think I prefer Lateralus since it flows better and feels less like individual songs.
