Do you delete old messages?

Just wondering: are you deleting old messages from your PM boxes on UG? I have idea to let you search in your PM boxes and change max number of messages you can store up to 1000. You'll be able to store all your conversations and quickly find what that guy was talking about that Line 6 amplifier.

I still have to discuss that with zappp, but I find this quite interesting and relatively easy to implement.

That's why I need to know more how do you use your pm at th moment. Do you store your conversations? Do you keep only important letters or just delete everything? How often you have to search in your pm's for a certain letter?

A good idea... another suggestion is an "saved messages" folder, where you can move the PMs you want to keep. Then, you can just select all the messages in your inbox and delete them, because you hadthe messages you wanted to keep in another folder already!

Just a thought...

i deleted all messages (except for about 20) about a month ago. now i have over 400.

more message space and easier search sounds good to me. :)

slightly related topic:
UG Instant Message system.

sounds like it would require lots of resources, but the product would be very attractive.

I save a lot of messages, but still delete some to try to conserve space in my inbox. In my opinion, I think this would useful.

YES! More message space for sure. It doesn't take up much room (it is only words).
I like to save everything, I am a pack rat. Some way to search through it would be cool too, a keyword search maybe. The idea for a separate folder to put stuff is
great also.

Let's see.

I often have to go through my messages and delete old ones. I prefer to keep messages from my friends, or those which I class as important. I receive a fair chunk of mail from the management concerning my articles and, unfortunately, a lot of these have to be deleted to make room for more messages.

There are some messages I often come back to. When using a different PC I check back for my e-mail client password. Also, when doing HTML edits on my work I review a message PiCSeL sent me concerning HTML, that is also in my inbox.

I also share a lot of mail with friends. Some of these messages are rather important to me. Some make me smile all of the time, which I find very soothing :) I like keeping hold of these, but as I run out of room I'm planning to move them to my e-mail.

Some users receive a lot of mail, some do not. Those that do often lose a lot of what they're looking for, so I think being able to search your mail for certain words and phrases would be very beneficial. Having a saved messages folder would also be good, though it would have to take room away from the actual inbox. Perhaps users could set the ratio themselves. Perhaps have 800 messages in the inbox and 200 in saved messages, I don't know.

I'll keep an eye and see how things develop. I wrote enough to cover two messages already after all. :P

I'm still for the Saved Messages folder, and I don't think it would be very difficult to implement... what do you say, Till?

I save all of my messages, except for one that I got that was just from someone who registered to advertise a dating website.
