Yeah, I'm doing it this year (and hopefully will be doing it every year). I won in 2007 and 2008, haven't done anything with one manuscript and just deleted the other. I used my createspace offer to get two copies of a different book I'd already written (one with an alternate ending) :P. Add me as a buddy on the site, I'm demonmouse500 on there, too.

Are you doing it again next year (if you're still around, lol)? I won last year Manuscript was too crap to salvage though

Perhaps I shall have the courage to type up some of my stories.

I wrote a short story a while ago. It's not too great but here it is anyway:

Due to the recent creation of this group, and the fact that most of the members were probably invited, I can assure that barely any of you, or none of you at all, know me.

However, I, too, am a writer and would be delighted to share with you all the wonders of literature and partake in the enjoyment of your creations, as well.

Just glad I'm not the only writer on this site. :D

This is a great idea. I've got two poetry/lyric blogs. Here's a link to the second which contains a link to the first, if anyone is interested of course:

I'm hoping to start compiling a work of poetic fiction soon. It will basically be a book of poems that all deal with the same theme and tell a single story though they likely won't be in perfect chronological order and certainly won't be in the same meter or format. It should be interesting...

Not sure demonmouse, I can make the entire group private if you like. As for stories, doesn't matter if they're long, chuck 'em up.

Essays are awesome. I got plenty of political ones I wish to write up actually this Summer.

I'd say essays are cool (at least for me, even if no one else wants to read them), as long as they're about something interesting and not a formal literary essay discussing leadership qualities portrayed in Julius Caesar (I like English class normally, but...)

Also, yay for writers group! I'm more of a novel person, since I find I can't fit as much into a short story, but I do have a couple decent short ones. I suck at poetry (I'm not being modest. I suck at it. Like, royally) and therefore can't really do songwriting either (although I'd love to be able to). I tried to turn one of my short stories into a 'poem' (started by putting it in iambic pentameter and threw some rhyming in) but it didn't turn out so great.

Does anyone know if there's a way we can make the threads only visible to group members? Because I'm not really comfortable putting my stuff out where it can be seen by the entire internet (more out of security issues than because I don't think it's any good).

Awesome, all sounds great. Essays are fine, I write them occasionally.

Nah, my short story will be a long one. Looking at something like 20,000 words, put I'm unsure on how long at the moment, it could be longer or shorter, depends on how it goes.

I have no idea if this will be any good or not. It could be bad, it could be good. I have no idea where this idea came from, but it sounds cool to me. I might publish it bit by bit in my blog, who knows :)

Oh, and sorry for the double post, but is it cool if I post essays? Not school essays obviously, but I write essays on my own time every now and then.

I mostly write poetry, but I'm in the middle of a short story. I'll probably end up posting it once I've finished.

Good idea actually, I'm writing up my own short story at the moment which should take me awhile to write and get perfect, I'd be cool to see how people think of it.

I do some poetry and stuff, improving my prose currently though.
